'Real-Life Mowgli': Bullied For Years, African Boy With Microcephaly Gets Donations

Discrimination on the basis of one's appearance is unfortunately a common practice all over the world. At the receiving end of such mistreatment is Zanziman Ellie of Rwanda, a 21-year-old man born with a disorder called microcephaly, a condition where a baby's head is much smaller the body.

The disorder has also rendered Ellie speechless since childhood. Due to his different looks, people of his community have outcast him which has led to Ellie spending most of his time in the jungle. He is often nicknamed as 'real-life Mowgli'.

According to reports, his mother lost five of her children before Ellie was born. She revealed how Ellie is often bullied and even chased around by locals for having an unusual face. Also, due to his inability to hear and speak, he has never been to school to receive any formal education.

However, a crowdfunding initiative has been set up by Afrimax TV - the same channel that interviewed Ellie's mother. It has started a GoFundMe page so that help could be provided to Ellie and his family.
